Dysplasias usually present as white, red or mixed patches on the oral mucosa.
They can affect any surface of the mouth lining but are more commonly found in the floor of mouth and on the tongue or the cheek lining.

These lesions may be unnoticed by patients and picked up by their dentists on routine examination.
In some cases patients can have a painful area of the mouth which persists and prompts them to seek an opinion.
